Following the success of Goldeneye 007, developer Rare declined the opportunity to make another Bond game, instead choosing to develop their own IP with the spiritual successor Perfect Dark. Electronic Arts took over and released their own sequel for the N64, The World is Not Enough in 2000. Ignoring their dismal first attempt with Tomorrow Never Dies, EA instead cloned the gameplay style of Goldeneye and produced a decent, if not innovative, game that met with good reviews. EA also released a Playstation game with the same title, but it was made by another developer and was poorly received for its bad gameplay and lack of multiplayer. 9. The World is Not Enough You start in China, with only your fists as weapons. In video game terms, it’s a tutorial level, with very easy versions of more complex things to come. You have simple combat, a couple of very dumb puzzles, you find hidden documents, everything to sell you on the idea of the game. In movie terms though, it’s the cold-open action scene that feels like a Kung Fu homage. You beat up guys in Gi to get to their boss, Zhong Mae, who also turns out to be the Bond girl of the game and then you flee on a boat. It feels like a section ripped from You Only Live Twice.

Microsoft confirmed the lack of online multiplayer mode on Xbox in a statement to The Verge, and it appears to be because the Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions are actually different. Nintendo appears to be using the original game, whereas Microsoft says it has made a “faithful recreation” of GoldenEye 007.
